How to Hang a Tapestry
One of my favorite ways to decorate a room is to grace one or more walls with a tapestry. These woven beauties are the perfect addition to a room with almost any decorating theme or style. The choices of size and shape and theme are endless. So if a tapestry is something you have been thinking about for one or more rooms of your home or office, it’s a good idea to know what your options are in respect to the way you will be hanging this art on your wall.
All the tapestries are fully lined and finished with a rod pocket or a series of loops through which you can place a decorative hanging rod.
All the metal rods come with mounting hardware and instructions for mounting. Sold separately.
Tapestries hung in the flat-to-wall ‘European Style’ provide a 1/8 inch air space between the wall and your tapestry .. You will never experience mildew or mold on tapestries hung flat- to- the- wall, as mildew/mold requires a continuous wet condition (such as a sauna or a leaking cellar wall ). This is the way tapestries have been hung in European homes for over 800 years. Hung in normal rooms today - on stone, drywall, sheet rock, brick, adobe, wood paneling etc, your textile will ‘breathe’ like all textiles have for centuries.
If your room is large and cold, scale it down by hanging a series of smaller tapestries together. This creates the illusion of a smaller space and can bring a large, blank wall down in size. Hanging small tapestries together will also add warmth to your room. When creating this illusion be sure to choose tapestries of a similar theme.
If a room is small and needs something to make it feel less cramped, consider choosing a tapestry that will bring a breath of fresh air into your living space.
